A Wisp of Flame – The Story of Ailean “Nan Sop” Maclean

This is a fictionalized account of Ailean “Nan Sop” Maclean – Scotland’s most notorious Viking pirate who lived from 1498 to 1551.  Yet, he died quietly in his bed and was buried on holy ground.  A Scottish noble, Ailean stole one of his father’s ships and left to become a pirate.  Not content with a single ship he amassed a fleet of deadly birlinns (similar to the Viking long ship) and preyed on the Irish and Scottish coasts for over thirty-five years, sinking ships and storming castles.  This is a story weaving the facts and legends into a dark tale of betrayal, intrigue, vengeance, and cunning.
